Now Aereo sues CBS
Barry Diller’s local TV subscription streaming service has decided to fire the latest volley at CBS in its ongoing battle with broadcasters. Aereo is responding to the threats of being sued in markets it plans to launch in—specifically responding to CBS EVP/Communications Dana McClintock’s Twitter post on 4/23, re Aereo’s Boston launch: “And we will be there to sue them…Stealing our signal will be found to be illegal in Boston, just as it will be everywhere else…Then again, if Aereo’s business is as successful in Boston as it’s been in NY, it has its own problems to deal with.”
Magna Global: 2.4% growth for US in 2013
Magna GlobalMagna Global says the US ad market is accelerating gradually, following a weak first quarter. Ad revenues are expected to grow 0.4% this year, or 2.4% excluding cyclical Political and Olympic (P&O) spending, in line with previous expectations. Magna Global is upgrading its 2014 forecast to 5.9%, or 3.8% excluding cyclical P&O spending, as the economic prospects appear more robust. Digital media will be the only category to grow significantly this year. Magna Global's 2013 estimates are slightly down from those reported in January.

YouTube to debut subscriptions on specialized videos
Google is readying an a la carte subscription service for some of YouTube’s specialist video channels, to finance a broader range of content and add a second revenue stream. The move, which has been in the works for months, could be announced as early as this week, says The Financial Times. It will apply to as many as 50 YouTube channels, people familiar with the plan say. Viewers will be able to subscribe to each channel for as little as $1.99 a month. Subscription YouTube channels will compete with Netflix and Hulu.
