Castor in line for Weiner's Commerce Committee seat

Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) has told local media outlets in Tampa that she expects to be named to the House Energy & Commerce Committee, filling the committee seat vacated by disgraced ex-congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY).

Castor has been a Member of Congress since 2007. She had served on the committee previously when Democrats had the majority in the House.

Congresswoman Castor is not known to have been active in any issues directly concerning broadcasters. She most recently made the RBR-TVBR news pages when she criticized BP’s advertising in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

A good part of Castor’s current district is underwater, since the various parts of her district in three counties are joined together by the waters of Tampa Bay. How it will look after the redistricting from the 2010 Census remains to be seen.

Weiner had not been a member of the Subcommittee on Communications & Technology, which deals with broadcasting issues, so it is unlikely that Castor will take a seat there.
