The managing director overseeing newsroom teams across the Lone Star State for Charter Communications’ Spectrum News 1 from Austin is heading to Waco, where he will soon take the reins as Station Manager for The E.W. Scripps Co.‘s twin ABC affiliates in the DMA.

As of June 10, Justin Burton will oversee KRHD-CD 15 in Bryan-College Station, Tex., a semi-satellite of KXXV-25 in Waco, Tex.

He will lead day-to-day operations for the stations and serve as News Director.

Burton’s previous roles include that of Asst. News Director at KOIN-6 in Portland, Ore., and as Asst. ND/Assignment Editor for KERO “23ABC” in Bakersfield. His experience also includes newsroom roles at KSHB-41 in Kansas City, KTLA-5 in Los Angeles, and at Portland-market stations KPTV-12 and KGW-8.

In Waco, he will report to Scripps Regional VP/GM Kathleen Choal, who calls Burton “an award-winning journalist with a deep understanding of newsroom operations and Texas markets. His leadership experience and previous tenure with Scripps stations make him a great choice to be the leader at KXXV/KRHD.”

Burton holds an MBA from the University of Missouri and a bachelor of science in broadcasting from Northwest Missouri State University. In his free time, Burton is a triathlete and marathon runner, a collector of vinyl records and an avid bird watcher.
