Brewer Sends Chattanooga Sports Station to New Family

For nearly 12 years, Chattanooga, Tenn., sports fans seeking updates and programming from ESPN Radio have been able to tune to a Class A FM licensed to the town of Lakesite, Tenn.

Soon, a change in listening habits will be needed, as this facility is set to transition to non-secular religious programming under a new owner.

WALV-FM 105.1 is being sold by Brewer Media Group to American Family Association, the Mississippi non-profit dedicated to Christian-themed radio.

AFA is paying $610,000 for WALV. A $30,500 refundable deposit has been made, with the remaining funds payable via wire transfer or cashier’s check at closing.

The call letters will change, as Brewer is keeping the WALV-FM call sign.

Closing is expected to occur no later than August 30.

Media Services Group is the exclusive broker in this transaction.

WALV has been at its present dial position since 2008, moving from 105.3 MHz.

Brewer’s other stations in the market are comprised of WPLZ-FM “Big 95.3” and HD2 “Easy 106.9”; WMPZ-FM “Groove 93”; and WJTT-FM “Power 94.”

AFA operates American Family Radio, which has been in operation for nearly thirty years. The majority of AFR stations are located in the Mid-South region.

The closest AFA property to Chattanooga is WZYZ-FM 90.1 in Spencer, Tenn., a tiny 30-watt Class A.

Serving as Brewer’s legal counsel in this transaction is David Oxenford of Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP.
