As RBR/TVBR has noted many times, the trend in deal-making during the last few years has been for commercial stations to sell to non-profit operators. But every now and then, a station moves in the other direction. Such is the case for KBSU-AM Boise ID.
The station is part of the local cluster owned by the Idaho State Board of Education, and it’s specifically associated with Boise State University. BSU will soldier on in radio with its FM stations, but is willing to part with the AM.
The buyer is very definitely a commercial operator. It does business as Impact Radio Group, but will license KBSU under the name FM Idaho Company LLC. It’s headed by Wendell M. Starke.
IRG will pay $165K for the station in cash. An LMA kicks in 6/24/11. The facility is a Class B on 730 kHz with 15 kW-D, 500 W-N, DA2.
IRG has four FMs considered to be part of the Boise market: KPDA-FM Gooding ID, KQLZ-FM Mountain Home ID, KWYD-FM Parma ID and KSRV-FM Ontario OR.
It also has two AMs are licensed to the same communities as two of the FMs, but which are not considered to be part of the Boise market. They are KMHI-AM Parma ID and KSRV-AM Ontario OR.
