Election Day 2026 is here, and much is at stake on the national, state and local level. From a big governor’s race in Oklahoma to U.S. Senate battles in Michigan and Florida, there’s a heightened sense of voting that broadcast TV station newsrooms have eagerly tapped into. For CBS Television Stations, their pioneering use of augmented reality and virtual reality powering sports and weather reports will be put to use tonight when the polls close and the results start rolling in.

AR/VR election centers are being rolled out across all of the CBS Television Stations properties, with immersive election coverage designed to help viewers “better understand local races, results and issues through interactive visual storytelling.”

“Powered by the company’s proprietary AR/VR platform, the Election Centers will enable journalists in 15 markets to explain races, ballot measures, voter trends and election results through three-dimensional graphics, interactive maps, virtual environments and dynamic data visualizations,” the CBS stations now under the control of Skydance.

The AR/VR technology debuted at KPIX-5 in San Francisco in 2023.
