The Nathan B. Stubblefield Foundation Inc., licensee of iconic eclectic music-driven WMNF-FM 88.5 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market, has named a veteran broadcast and public media executive as its next General Manager.

Alex Worthey takes the role effective November 2, and brings more than two decades of leadership experience in commercial radio, public broadcasting, programming, audience development, digital content strategy and organizational management.

As General Manager, Worthey will report directly to the Foundation’s Board of Directors, providing executive leadership for WMNF’s operations, organizational strategy, financial sustainability and community engagement. His appointment follows a national search conducted by the Board.

Worthey most recently served as Program Director of WNCU-FM in Durham, N.C., licensed to North Carolina Central University. He began his career in listener-supported radio at the University of Central Florida’s Jazz WUCF-FM in Orlando.

Austin Craven, President of the Board of Directors for the Stubblefield Foundation, said he is confident that Worthey’s “infectious energy and attitude, along with fresh ideas and perspective, will catapult WMNF into the future, and I look forward to working with him for years to come.”

Worthey commented, “I’m honored to return to Tampa Bay and have the opportunity to lead WMNF, which has built an extraordinary legacy of connecting people through music, information and community service. My first priority will be to listen to our staff, volunteers, listeners, supporters and community partners, and work together to build upon that foundation while positioning the station for its next chapter. As I look ahead, my vision is to build upon WMNF’s strong foundation while exploring opportunities to expand our local news and public affairs coverage, strengthen our community partnerships, elevate our diverse music and cultural programming, and broaden our reach through digital platforms and multimedia storytelling that will introduce WMNF to the next generation of audiences.”
