SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. — News-Press & Gazette Co. has long been a pioneer of digital television, with its California Central Coast operation among the first stations in the U.S. to embrace the current standard. Now, NPG Media has transitioned its ATSC 3.0 broadcast signal signing to the certificate authority operated by Silicondust.
As such, KSBB-CD in Santa Barbara is using ATSC3CA signal signing certificates to authenticate its NEXTGEN TV broadcasts and comply with the signing security requirements of the nation’s ATSC 3.0 standards.
KSBB-CD transitioned its low power television operations to the new ATSC 3.0 transmission standard on October 10, 2018, operating alongside the ABC, CBS and MyNetwork TV affiliates in the market that includes San Luis Obispo which are owned by NPG Media.
Silicondust President Nick Kelsey applauded the KEYT-3 engineering team with helping in the transition at KSBB-CD, which has a PSIP of Channel 17. “After analyzing their needs, it was determined that our ATSC3CA OCSP solution met their technology requirements,” he said. “Broadcasters need an ATSC 3.0 security solution that will operate flawlessly throughout any emergency and choosing a Certificate Authority with the right OCSP solution is critical.”
Silicondust provided ATSC 3.0 signal signing certificates backed by ATSC3C Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) cloud infrastructure to KSBB-CD. This OCSP uses cloud edge node OCSP responders across 30+ data centers in the U.S., plus emergency fallback to conventional heavy servers maintained across redundant data centers. “This robust technology ensures broadcasters remain compliant throughout situations that could otherwise result in televisions rejecting TV channels,” Silicondust said.
