Under Circle City Broadcasting ownership, company President/CEO DuJuan McCoy has worked hard and fast to place his own imprint on the ABC affiliate serving Indianapolis — a station some believed he shouldn’t have acquired as it created a “triopoly” in the market.
With the FCC signaling that it’s perfectly fine with one company owning three full-power stations in a DMA, the life of WRTV-6 since its sale by The E.W. Scripps Co. has been rather fruitful. Now, McCoy has unveiled a fresh station theme and brand slogan.
Created in partnership with Stephen Arnold Music, the new WRTV station theme is centered on the “Back Home Again in Indiana” concept as a new brand slogan has come to fruition: “First On Air. First Online. First for Indiana.”
Developed exclusively for WRTV, considered to be Indiana’s first television station, the new station theme will serve as the signature sound of WRTV across its newscasts, promotions and station branding. Featuring “Back Home Again in Indiana,” the theme, says McCoy, reflects the station’s Hoosier heritage while supporting its continued transformation under Circle City Broadcasting.
The custom station theme includes multiple variations for news, marketing and promotional use, creating a consistent audio identity across every WRTV platform. “The new slogan reflects WRTV’s legacy and its vision for the future,” McCoy said.
First On Air is in recognition of WRTV’s May 30, 1949 sign-on; WRTV is also believed to be the first TV station in Indianapolis to launch a dedicated online home.
“WRTV has been part of Hoosier history for generations, so It felt only right that our station theme feature one of the most recognizable songs ever written about Indiana,” McCoy said. “Our new station theme and slogan honor our history while reflecting where we’re headed. ‘First On Air. First Online. First for Indiana.’ isn’t just a tagline. It’s our promise to viewers and our vision for the future. Stephen Arnold Music created a station theme that honors our heritage while giving WRTV a sound that’s uniquely its own.”
For Stephen Arnold Music President Chad Cook, “Every great television station has a signature sound that immediately connects with viewers. For WRTV, we wanted to create a station theme that honors the station’s remarkable history while sounding fresh, contemporary and unmistakably Indiana. Incorporating Back Home Again in Indiana allowed us to create a timeless audio identity that reflects WRTV’s heritage while supporting its vision for the future.”
