Maurice Potts To Lead ‘Revitalized’ Urban One DFW Operation

DALLAS — Thanks to its transformative $22 million transaction with Hymen Childs’ Service Broadcasting, announced in May, Urban One has a “revitalized” Dallas-Fort Worth station group. As such, the company led by Alfred Liggins III has refreshed its leadership team in North Texas.

This sees the appointment of three individuals to key roles:

  • Maurice Potts has been named Vice President/General Manager
  • Karl Whittingham is promoted to Director of Sales
  • Kevin Jenkins joins the company as Local Sales Manager

Urban One’s Dallas stations are comprised of R&B KKDA-FM “K104,” Hip-Hop KBFB “97.9 The Beat” and Adult R&B KRNB-FM “Smooth 105.7.”

Potts rises from General Sales Manager, a role he’s held for the past three years. He is a 15-year Urban One veteran and serves as a Board Member for the Texas Association of Broadcasters.

Whittingham rises from within Urban One, while Jenkins shifts from a role as Executive VP of National Sales for Service Broadcasting.

All report to Regional Vice President Doug Abernethy, who remarked, “Bringing these historic Dallas brands into the Radio One family is monumental. I am incredibly proud to promote Maurice and Karl. Having worked with Maurice and Karl during our time at Radio One, I know firsthand their exceptional drive and dedication to excellence. Additionally, adding Kevin to our leadership team ensures we have a leadership team built on deep local roots and proven success. Together this team will elevate Radio One to greater heights with our partners.”
