A Homecoming for Bauermeister At SBS

He was born and raised in San Juan, and in 1993 started his career at WLDI “Oldies 94.7” — a short-lived attempt to bring mainland hits from the late 1950s through the early 1970s with a Spanish-language presentation.

Today, he’s VP/General Manager of the stations in Orlando and Tampa owned by Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS). And, he’s adding duties in Puerto Rico, too.

As such, Fernando Bauermeister will manage SBS’s cadenas serving San Juan, Ponce, Mayaguez and all of the U.S. commonwealth: Latin Pop and Hot Talk “Mega 106.9,” Adult Hits “La Megaestación” (on WMEG-FM HD2), Latin Urban “La Nueva 94,” Latin Adult Contemporary WRXD “Estéreotempo,” and Classic Salsa “Z93.”

SBS COO Richard Lara commented, “Our Orlando, Tampa and Puerto Rico markets share a natural connection in culture and audience. Fernando is a proven leader with deep roots in Puerto Rico and an exceptional track record in Orlando and Tampa. His elevation to lead these critical markets creates a powerful synergy to drive results across all three.”

Bauermeister added, “I’m excited to lead our wonderful Puerto Rico team to continue serving our local community and helping our advertisers achieve their goals. My career started on these same stations in Puerto Rico 35 years ago, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to work side by side with our team.”

He’s been associated with SBS since 1995, when he joined “La Mega” as an on-air talent before shifting to sales; WLDI was acquired by SBS and transformed into “Cosmos 94” before taking on its current identity.

In 2005, Bauermeister relocated — like many Boricuas — to Central Florida. There, he helped to launch highly successful Tropical WRUM “Rumba 100.3” as General Sales Manager of the iHeartMedia FM. In 2013, he shifted to Tampa, where he led sales for the seven-station iHeartMedia station group after serving as GSM for WFLZ, WXTB and WBTP.

In 2022, Fernando returned to Orlando to help launch WOEX-FM as a Spanish-language radio station under Cox Media Group. He then Spanish Broadcasting System as General Manager for the Orlando and Tampa markets upon its entry there.

Bauermeister’s additional duties in Puerto Rico come at a pivotal moment for media in San Juan, Ponce and Mayaguez, as Nielsen has informed the Puerto Rico media industry that it plans to discontinue its audience-ratings measurement services on the island at the end of 2026. The news was first reported by HispanicAd on July 23.
