Tardy License Renewal Yields Forfeiture Order For Religious LPTV

An Oregon nonprofit corporation incorporated on October 6, 1989 faces a small fine for failing to timely file a license renewal application for a low-powered TV station serving Eugene, Ore.

His Word Broadcasting Co. is being handed a $1,500 fine for filing its license renewal application on November 25, 2022.

It was due no later than October 3, 2022.

While the licensee noted that the late filing “was purely an oversight,” that’s no excuse for Barbara Kreisman, the Media Bureau’s Video Division Chief. She issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order in August proposing the forfeiture, pending a request for a reduction or cancellation of the fine by His Word Broadcasting.

The licensee had 30 days to pay up or request the cancellation or reduction of the fine. It did neither, Kreisman said.

Now, the religious non-profit organization has no choice but to pay up.

In related news, Town of Coulee City, licensee of TV translator stations
K10RA-D, K11WY-D, and K12RD-D in Coulee City, Wash., must pay a $4,500 fine for a similar tardy license renewal application filing. The licensee offered the Commission no explanation for why it was late.
