Online Video Advertising: A Bigger Threat Than The ‘GAFAN’ Gang?

For seven years, the “GAFAN” group of digital Goliaths — as in Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Netflix — have been the focal point of a vociferous fight for a loosening of ownership rules by the FCC, with linear media advocacy group NAB leading the charge.


Now, new data suggest Facebook parent Meta and Alphabet’s YouTube aren’t the leading challenges to broadcast and cable TV as 2023 awaits.

Instead, it is the social media vehicle some want to ban for its reported ties to the government of the People’s Republic of China — an app that is also the biggest influencer for some of today’s Top 40 triumphs.
