Meder ‘Returns Home’ To Tampa As Lawless Plans Exit

At the end of August, a big shift will be happening at some of Tampa Bay’s biggest radio stations. Keith Lawless will exit Cox Media Group at the end of the month to spend more time with his family.

This leaves the role of VP/Market Manager in new hands. And, CMG has revealed who will be succeeding Lawless in the leadership of such top-rated audio brands as “105.5 The Dove.”

Earning the role is Jason Meder.

Meder presently holds similar duties for CMG’s Orlando stations, an hour to the east via I-4.

As of September 1, Meder will be in charge of WDUV, the market-leading Adult Contemporary station; Classic Hits WXGL “107.3 The Eagle,” Top 40 WPOI “Hot 101.5,” Hot Adult Contemporary WWRM “Magic 94.9,” Sarasota-licensed Hot Talk WHPT “102.5 The Bone“; and Alternative “97X,” using a Pinellas County FM translator at 97.5 MHz and the HD2 signals of both WPOI and WWRM.

Meder joined CMG 20 years ago as a media consultant for the Tampa stations. This led to roles as a General Sales Manager, Director of Sales, General Manager, and, ultimately, his most recent role.

“Jason’s leadership, creativity and strategic approach have led to outstanding results for our employees, listeners, and advertisers in Orlando, and he’s leaving the market in much better condition than when he arrived,” said Cox Media Group Radio Executive VP Rob Babin. “Orlando remains a crucial market for CMG, and I will immediately begin the search for a new VP/Market Manager to continue our team’s success there. I know that Jason will make a positive impact in this new role in Tampa, building on the consistent success that our team in Tampa produces every year.”

A native of the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, Meder has served on the boards of directors for both the Ronald McDonald House and Florida Association of Broadcasters.

“Our CMG Radio team in Orlando worked hard and worked together to achieve some amazing accomplishments. And we built a team that will continue to have great success in the future,” Meder said. “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to return to CMG Tampa, work with another very talented team, and continue the legacy of success for these powerful CMG community brands.”
