A low-power TV station operating on digital channel 23, with a PSIP of channel 32, will soon be shifting its programming from CGTN America fare to offerings with a decidedly more evangelical flair.
That’s because, pending FCC approval, the entity behind Daystar is entering the New York City market.
In a transaction valued at $3 million, Arnold Torres-led Word of God Fellowship is agreeing to purchase WXNY-LD in New York from New York Spectrum Holding Company LLC.
That’s the entity led by Reston, Va.-based Charles Wong, which has been serving as a home for programming from China Global Television Network, the international division of the state-owned media organization China Central Television.
This will undoubtedly come to an end upon the deal’s closing.
Greg Guy of Patrick Communications served as the broker in the transaction, with Kathleen Victory of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth acting as the seller’s counsel. The buyer’s counsel is Mark Denbo of Smithwick & Belendiuk.
Guy is serving as escrow agent, and is holding a 10% deposit. He represented Wong in the deal.
According to the deal terms, WXNY does not have mandatory carriage for the 2021-2023 election cycle and is presently not on any MVPD. However, Daystar has historically enjoyed robust relationships with cable television service providers across the U.S.
WXNY’s transmitter is atop the Empire State Building.
