For 15 years, she was the go-to person for all of the corporate-level communication from Univision Communications, the multimedia giant focused on Spanish-speaking U.S. Hispanics that is now under majority ownership of ForgeLight LLC and Searchlight Capital Partners.
With that shift in control, several changes transpired. Wade Davis replaced Vince Sadusky as CEO. Steve Mandala was fired, with Donna Speciale brought in to the C-Suite.
Now, big changes have come to the corporate communications team.
Rosemary Mercedes, the widely known Chief Communications Officer, has resigned.
She will transition out of the company later this month, Univision announced on Thursday (3/4).
In an internal memo obtained by RBR+TVBR, Pierluigi Gazzolo, who recently took the role of President and Chief Transformation Officer of Univision, said Mercedes decided to leave the company to spend more time with her family.
“Throughout her outstanding 15-year tenure at Univision, Rosemary has created enormous value by masterfully raising the profile of the Univision brand and shaping the corporate narrative,” Gazzolo said. “She has played a critical role highlighting the Hispanic consumer opportunity in the marketplace … Rosemary is undoubtedly a true team leader, a mentor and an inspiration to all who have had the pleasure to work with her.
In an official release, Gazzolo remarked, “Throughout her tenure with Univision, Rosemary has played an important role in raising the profile of the Univision brand and the Hispanic consumer opportunity in the marketplace. We are excited for Rosemary on her next chapter and again thank her for her significant contributions and the indelible legacy she leaves behind through her team and across the company.”
Mercedes joined Univision in February 2006. Before that, he headed up public information for Pace University.
Mercedes’ exit follows that of former SVP/Corporate Communications Bobby Amirshahi, who departed in December to take on similar duties at Macy’s, where he now leads the entire communications function including PR and corporate giving for the retailer.
As Univision opens the search for Mercedes’ permanent replacement, it is welcoming Beatriz Pedrosa-Guanche as Amirshahi’s successor.
RBR+TVBR initially reported that Pedrosa-Guanche was succeeding Mercedes.
She’s a former head of communications and public relations for Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market for Apple Inc., and spent three years and 3 months in the role before exiting in April 2018.
Before that, Pedrosa-Guanche spent four years associated with Burson-Marsteller.
Since exiting Apple, she’s led her own media relations and “influencer engagement” shop in Miami, Mass A’peel.
The expertise of the consultancy spans healthcare, tech, luxury, automobile and video gaming.
In welcoming Pedrosa-Guanche, Gazzolo said, “Beatriz is a global communications leader with more than two decades of marketing and communications experience that will help support our ongoing transformation and long-term objectives by leading the corporate communications team at this critical juncture.”
