Clear ChannelDemonstrating once again the power of cooperation between the radio and recording industries, contemporary act One Direction is making use of Clear Channel’s network of radio stations and its iHeart internet presence to kick off its latest release.

The album is “MIDNIGHT MEMORIES,” and the kick-off will begin with an iHeartRadio Album Release Party hosted by CCME talent Ryan Seacrest which will feature a Q&A session with the band.

The event is scheduled for 9PM eastern on 11/25/13, and will be carried live by no less than 90 Clear Channel CHR radio stations.
It will also be available on Yahoo Screen and will eventually be broadcast on television’s CW Network.

The splash will be further enhanced by the use of social media and Clear Channel’s outdoor assets.

The album was released by Syco/Columbia Records.

RBR-TVBR observation: If One Direction thought it was getting ripped off by a radio company that was appropriating its music for free, they wouldn’t enter into an agreement like this.

The reason is that Clear Channel providing value, and both the band and Columbia are fully aware of it. They know that they will benefit economically by the promotion Clear Channel is providing via its multiple media platforms, not the least of which is a very large contingency of hit-making CHR radio stations.

The label is getting value from Clear Channel simply by having its material played over the air, which in turn supports one of the primary local media. The record company is indeed getting value for airplay, even without a performance royalty, something that was recognized years ago and made the law of the land, and something which remains true today, as testified to by One Direction and Syco/Columbia Records.
