Pentecostal Temple Development Corporation already has one AM station serving the Pittsburgh market, and it’s about to get another stronger one, courtesy of Renda Broadcasting Corporation.
The station being offered to PTDC as a charitable contribution is WMNY-AM McKeesport PA. It will form an AM duopoly with WGBN-AM.
Renda is headed by Anthony F. Renda; PTDC by Loran E. Mann.
Renda will remain active in the Pittsburgh market, and as such, the station will not include all of the assets necessary to operate it. It will be handed over as is, and it may be operating at reduced power or off the air entirely under an STA.
At full strength, it will increase PTDC’s voice in the market. Its 1360 kHz signal is a Class B with 5 kW-D, 250 W-N, DAN – and it boasts a signal well-centered over Pittsburgh proper. Renda is running a news-talk format on it.
WGBN, licensed to New Kensington PA, uses a Black Gospel format in Class D 1150 kHz, with 1 kW-D and 70 W-N on a signal with fair coverage of Pittsburgh, oriented toward the northeast portion of the market.
Mann is a member of the clergy, and has radio and television experience on his resume, mostly as a reporter with WPXI-TV, which is currently a Cox-owned NBC affiliate.
