The US Labor Department reported that 431,000 jobs were created in May, well below the expectations of private economists. Not only that, 411,000 of those new jobs were from hiring by the US Census, so the non-Census job creation was a dismal 20,000 new positions. Private economists had expected better numbers, so the report sent stock prices skidding. When the closing bell sounded Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 323 points, or 3.2%, at 9,932. Nearly all broadcasting stocks were lower.
The RBR Radio Index was down 7.598, or 1.9%, to 398.392.
The TVBR Television Index was down 8.706, or 4.3%, to 195.473.
