Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke said in a New York speech that the Fed is likely to keep interest rates at their current low levels for “an extended period” because rising unemployment and tightfisted bankers are keeping a lid on the recovery. That word of low interest rates continuing was well received on Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shot up 136 points, or 1.3%, to 10,407. Nearly all broadcasting stocks had an up day.
The RBR Radio Index was up 9.918, or 6%, to 175.857.
The TVBR Television Index was up 4.258, or 3.9%, to 114.959.
