TelemundoTelemundo Internacional and Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN) announced an international coproduction deal for the new original super series “Dueños del Paraíso,” (Owners of Paradise) which marks the return to television of internationally acclaimed actress Kate del Castillo.

Telemundo and TVN Chile will broadcast the scripted drama in the United States and Chile, respectively. Telemundo will be in charge of the international syndication of the super series, which is expected to feature top in-front and behind the camera talent from TVN and Telemundo.  The deal was signed at the LA Screenings by Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Internacional, and Mauro Valdés, Executive Director of Director of TVN.

“We are extremely proud of this historic coproduction agreement with the company that has led scripted drama in Chile,” said Santana.  “This coproduction will have a significant impact in the international markets, as both companies dedicate their best resources to this project.  Written by Pablo Illanes, this story is inspired in real events that took place at the end of the 70s and early 80s, a period marked by intense controversy both in Miami, with the arrival of the drug wars, and in Chile under the military government of Augusto Pinochet.”

An original story by Chilean writer Pablo Illanes, author of novelas “¿Dónde Está Elisa?” and “Alguien te Mira,” among other successful international hits, “Dueños del Paraíso” will be taped on location in Miami, New York and Chile, and will feature the special participation of top Chilean stars which TVN will cast through a national search.

“This agreement is a manifestation of TVN’s leadership, in particular in the area of scripted productions,” said Valdés.  “We have had a long standing relationship with our partner Telemundo Internacional and this project will expand it into large scale audiovisual productions.  This alliance introduces a major innovation in the Chilean television industry and will allow us to showcase to the international markets the great capacity of our production teams, the talent of our actors and the quality of our country’s locations.”

Kate del Castillo returns to television after the huge success of “La Reina del Sur,” the highest-rated novela in Telemundo’s history that delivered record sales in the international market.  In “Dueños del Paraíso” Kate del Castillo plays Anastasia Cardona, the widow of a well-known Mexican drug lord, who has become psychologically disturbed by the violence that has surrounded her. Anastasia then becomes the target of the so-called “drug wars.”
