Second week of December trading much like the first

The week of December 8-12 is a done deal as far as the Year 2014 and the FCC Media Bureau are concerned, and all in all it was a quiet one at the office where transfer applications are accepted. Stocks were mixed.

All quiet on the station trading front

In all, nine broadcast deals were accepted by the FCC for filing during the week, involving 11 station. They were fairly evenly divided, with five radio deals involving six stations augmented by four TV deals, all low powers, involving five stations.

Almost all the value was on the radio side — $1,233,058 to be exact. Not a big haul by any stretch of the imagination. Just under 10% — $115,000 – will be paid via promissory note.
The LPTVs were very low impact in terms of price, bringing in a combined total of only $65,000.

The puts the total haul for the week at $1,298,058.

Almost all of it went toward the acquisition of WOXY-FM in the Cincinnati market. Here are summaries the week’s two top deals:

$900,000: TSJ Radio LLC, which includes Frank Wood and Robert Lawrence among its principals, turns an LMA for WOXY-FM in the Cincinnati area in to an O&O. The seller is Queen Cities Broadcasting LLC.

$130,000: In a deal financed almost entirely with seller paper, Chisholm Trail Communications picks up KOME-FM Meridian TX from North Texas Radio Group. The station is southwest of Fort Worth.

Stocks take a hit
It was much worse for the television companies followed by RBR-TVBR than for the radio companies, but both had a challenging week. Television was down a bit more than 2.5% all told, while radio stocks lost about a third of a percent.

iHeart Media, Entravision, Saga and Entercom all had good weeks.

Sinclair, Radio One and Beasley bore the brunt of the red ink.
