Fight Over Rosenworcel Nomination Escalates

rosenworcel-testifyingSome members of Congress have been sparring for a while over the re-nomination of Jessica Rosenworcel to the FCC. Now, those actions have escalated.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is holding up a bill backed by Senate Commerce Committee Chair John Thune (R-S.D.), reports The Hill, with a spokesperson suggesting the delay is related to the GOP’s unwillingness to confirm Rosenworcel for a second term at the commission.

Thune has said those holds could be loosened if FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler would commit to leaving at the same time as President Obama. We’ve reported Wheeler has said to lawmakers several times he’s not ready to publicly address when he plans to leave the agency, though he’s aware it’s customary to do so before a new President takes office.
