RBR+TVBR Observation: Why Local Media Wins

1

By Adam R Jacobson

At 5pm Pacific on Monday (1/9), a dire situation was unfolding in the picturesque and tranquil communities dotting central San Luis Obispo County, California. In Avila Beach, an employee and guests were rescued via a boat from a hotel. In Morro Bay, severe flooding and power outages were seen. To the south near Montaña de Oro, a mudslide severely damaged 20 homes.

More rain and severe weather were expected to pummel the Golden State’s Central Coast on Tuesday. Covering it all — local broadcasters, with The E.W. Scripps Co.‘s NBC affiliate and American General Media‘s radio stations proving why local journalism is vitally important in the digital age.
