Radio and Television Transactions

In March 2014, Janice Hunt placed a Classic Rock format on a big AM radio station serving the Mile High City -- and its Boulder, Colo.-focused FM translator. By May 2019, the FM translator was taken over by iHeartRadio, shifting "The Rock" to a different translator. Now, "The Rock" is ready to roll away for good.

Travel between metropolitan Montréal and Burlington, Vt., and you'll find the quaint town of Saint Albans. Here, a silent AM licensed for 1kw during daylight and 107 watts at night, which has an FM translator assigned to it, is being handed to a new licensee. It effectively ends months of planning from Tiffany and Eric Miller, who had revived the long-dormant operation in mid-2019.

A Class A digital TV station licensed to Cleveland -- Tennessee, not Ohio -- with the ability to reach viewers in nearby Chattanooga is being sold. The deal, reached April 2, formally marks the end of Heartland programming, with a change to religious offerings on the way.

It's currently silent, but there's a 6kw FM serving a rural area due east of Anderson, S.C., in a town named ... um ... Due West, S.C.  The station's city of license is slightly south of its tower, but one need not need direction to learn where this station is going. A new owner is on the horizon.

In March, the call letters "KPRO" were assigned to a Class A FM radio serving the city of Marshall, Tex. Then, at the end of May, this facility reverted to the call letters it previously had in place since 1992. Now, the FM has been sold, and based on the licensee name, "The Depot" may be laying tracks for a rebirth of this forlorn facility.

With Black Information Network (BIN) quickly seeking to establish itself as a national voice for the African American community, iHeartMedia has swiftly moved forward to fill some key coverage holes in the top Black DMAs. On Sept. 24, it quietly moved forward with an arrangement made public Oct. 1 by the FCC that saw Kalil & Co. represent iHeart in a Miami deal.

In 1995, former Z100/N.Y. GSM and VP/GM Gary Fisher began buying radio stations, and today serves as owner and President of Equity Communications of Atlantic City, N.J. Now, Fisher is selling one of the FMs in his stable along the Jersey Shore.

"Boomtown Richmond" is officially getting a little more oomph. It is purchasing two AMs and an FM translator that were once part of Davidson Media Group's Spanish-language holdings across the East Coast, operated via an LMA for nearly three years.

Under Wayne Barr Jr. as Chief Executive, HC2 has sold TV stations to Weigel Broadcasting and, most recently, to Gray Television. HC2 is adding to more TV stations to the sell pile.

On Dec. 6, 2020, the sole owner of an AM/FM combo and an FM translator serving a portion of the Norfolk DMA passed away. Now, paperwork is being filed with the Commission that will formally transfer ownership of the facilities to the executrix of his estate.

Earlier this year, Laurence Zimmerman-led Landover Wireless drafted two transactions that saw the transfer of control of unbuilt LPTVs to Jeff Winemiller and his Lowcountry 34 Media. Now, Zimmerman's group is spinning an unbuilt LPTV property in Idaho. The buyer could use it to expand the markets where Evoca is being launched.

A Class A FM serving the city of Macomb, Ill., has a new owner. The transaction is hardly a surprise, however, as the seller has been allowing the buyer to operate the facility, resulting in a change in the non-secular worship and praise programming heard on the station.

Frank Copsidas has bought and sold many LPTVs. Now, he's spinning a property licensed to a town of less than 2,000 in the Deep South. The buyer? Gray Television.

It bills itself as a Chicago-based multimedia company that offers extensive radio programming offerings including mix show syndication, production and imaging. Now, the entity majority-controlled by Robert Jamrog is poised to become the licensee of a FM translator licensed to serve Monterey, Calif. Guess who the seller is.

Public Venture Media Group stations "are led by some of public media's most dynamic leaders, operating 130 television stations that serve over 240 million people," it notes. Now, it is gaining two low-power TV stations thanks to a donation by an active trader of LPTVs in recent months.
