Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Medallas de Cortez awards, in eight categories. The awards, sponsored by vCreative, will be presented at the Hispanic Radio Conference, to be held March 13-14 in Miami at the Intercontinental at Doral. Nominations are now open, and the deadline for entries is January 24.

The Medallas de Cortez awards are the most prestigious and highly coveted symbol of excellence in Hispanic radio. This is the ninth year these exclusive radio awards have been presented. If you know someone who is doing great work in Hispanic radio, don’t miss the chance to spotlight their efforts with a nomination.

“The Medallas de Cortez awards presentation is always a highlight of the Hispanic Radio Conference,” RBR+TVBR Publisher Deborah Parenti says. “The opportunity to honor excellence in Hispanic radio serves as an inspiration to all who attend. It also casts a well-deserved spotlight on the dedicated professionalism found throughout Hispanic radio.”

The awards are named in honor of Raoul Cortez, who founded KCOR-AM 1350 in San Antonio — the first Spanish-language station in the United States — in 1946.

Nominations are open to anyone, regardless of their ethnicity or heritage, so long as they are involved in Hispanic broadcasting. The goal is to make sure everyone dedicated to this segment of the industry has an opportunity to be recognized for their contributions to excellence in radio.

Nominations are being accepted in eight categories:

  • Marketer
  • National/Syndicated Personality
  • Local Personality
  • Program Director
  • Sales Manager
  • General/Market Manager
  • Station of the Year
  • Broadcaster of the Year
