Why Is A GOP Consultant’s Talk Radio Purchase Of Concern?

0

On February 1, Mitten News quietly acquired Class D daytimer WJNL-AM 1210 in Kingsley, Mich. and FM simulcast partner W266CS, at 101.1 MHz in Traverse City, Mich. from Stone Communications.

The $700,000 deal also sees Stone sell to Mitten News Class D directional WJML-AM 1110 in Petoskey, Mich.

Nearly six months later, local media is reporting that there’s some controversy regarding the sale of the Talk stations to Mitten News, led by John Yob. That’s because he’s a political consultant for the Republican Party, and “some experts” tell the Detroit Free Press the acquisition “raises a minefield of potential broadcast and campaign finance law concerns.”
