Why Broadcasters Straddle Both Sides of Set-Top Box Brawl

FCCdoorAs pressure mounts on all sides of the set-top box issue ahead of this Thursday’s planned commission vote, the arguments are becoming more pointed.


We’ve reported the chairman says the point of the proposal to “unlock the box” is to allow more manufacturers and software developers access to set-top boxes, to lower consumer rates and spur marketplace competition.

But those against the move say the proposal won’t accomplish these goals and will actually disrupt agreements that television and other video content creators have in place with distributers.
