Week 47: NBC sees 'America's Got Talent' as Top slot show

Paced by the Tuesday edition of “America’s Got Talent,” which was the #1 program of the week on the broadcast networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures, NBC averaged a 1.2 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall for the week of August 8-14, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.


Tuesday’s two-hour edition of “America’s Got Talent” was the #1 program of the week on the broadcast networks in adults 18-49, while the Wednesday Results Show tied for #7. In total viewers, the Tuesday and Wednesday editions were #1 and #3 for the week respectively. Sunday’s “Dateline NBC,” which attracted the show’s biggest overall audience for a Sunday edition since March 2009, ranked #13 for the week in total viewers.

This is the 11th week in a row “America’s Got Talent” has ranked #1 in total viewers among all primetime non-sports programs on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW and the sixth week in a row “Talent” has been #1 on those networks in adults 18-49.

NBC has had the #1 non-sports program on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox or CW in 18-49 and total viewers every week this summer.

Primetime averages for the week of August 8-14 in adults 18-49 were Fox (1.8/6), CBS (1.4/4), ABC (1.3/4), NBC (1.2/4) and CW (0.3/1). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (6.3 million), ABC (4.7 million), Fox (4.7 million), NBC (4.6 million) and CW (0.8 million).

NBC highlights for the week of August 8-14:

* “America’s Got Talent” scored the #1 results on television Tuesday night in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures on a competitive night versus largely first-run programming on the broadcast networks. “America’s Got Talent” ranked #1 in its two-hour time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key rating categories.

* “Talent” won the 9-10 p.m. ET hour Tuesday night by margins of 20 percent in adults 18-49 and 40 percent in total viewers. In the 10 p.m. hour, “Talent” beat the first-run ABC-CBS competition combined in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

* Versus the same night last year, “America’s Got Talent” was up 3 percent in adults 18-49 and 9 percent in total viewers.

* NBC ranked #1 Tuesday night in total viewers, marking the network’s 11th consecutive Tuesday win in that measure.

* On Wednesday, a Results Show edition of “America’s Got Talent” ranked #1 in its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures, with winning margins of 20 percent in adults 18-49, 41 percent in adults 25-54 and 68 percent in total viewers.

* Also on Wednesday, “Love in the Wild” tied for #1 in its hour in adults 18-49 and was #1 outright in adults 18-34. For all seven of its telecasts to date, “Love In The Wild” has finished #1 or tied for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49.

* On Friday, “Dateline NBC” earned the #1 rating of the night among non-sports telecasts on ABC, CBS, NBC and CW in adults 18-49, marking the eighth time this summer “Dateline” has been #1 or tied for #1 among Friday non-sports programs.

On Sunday, “Dateline NBC” reported its highest adult 18-49 rating for a Sunday telecast since May 22 and its biggest overall audience on a Sunday since March 22, 2009.

Ratings reflect “live plus same day” data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of “live plus seven day” data except for the two most recent weeks, which are “live plus same day.”

Additional NBC highlights for the week of August 8-14:

On Monday, August 8 from 8-10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “America’s Got Talent” delivered a 1.1 rating, 3 share in adults 18-49 and 4.8 million viewers overall.

Monday from 10-11 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of “Harry’s Law” delivered a 0.7/2 and 3.9 million viewers overall. Week to week, the “Harry’s Law encore was up 17 percent in 18-49 rating (0.7 vs. 0.6) and 22 percent in total viewers (3.885 million vs. 3.176 million).

On Tuesday, August 9 from 8-9 p.m. ET, “It’s Worth What?” averaged a 1.1/4 in 18-49 and 4.4 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, “It’s Worth What?” grew in most key categories, including gains of 9 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.2 rating from a 1.1) and 33 percent in adults 18-34 (0.8 vs. 0.6).

Tuesday from 9-11 p.m. ET, “America’s Got Talent” (3.0/8 in adults 18-49, 11.5 million viewers overall) scored the #1 results of the night in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures on a competitive night that included first-run episodes of Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Masterchef,” ABC’s “Wipeout,” “Take the Money & Run” and “Combat Hospital” and CBS’s “48 Hours Mystery.”

“America’s Got Talent” ranked #1 in its two-hour time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key ratings categories. “Talent” won the 9-10 p.m. ET hour by margins of 20 percent in 18-49 rating (3.0 vs. a 2.5 for Fox’s “Masterchef” in second place) and 40 percent in total viewers (11.6 million vs. 8.2 million for CBS’s second-place “NCIS: LA” encore). In the 10 p.m. hour, “Talent” beat the ABC-CBS competition combined in adults 18-49 (3.1 vs. a combined 1.9) and total viewers (11.4 million vs. a combined 9.4 million).

Versus the same night last year, “America’s Got Talent” was up 3 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 3.0 rating from a 2.9) and 9 percent in total viewers (11.464 million vs. 10.480 million).

NBC ranked #1 on Tuesday night in total viewers, marking the network’s 11th consecutive Tuesday win in that category.

On Wednesday, August 10 at 8 p.m. ET, “Minute To Win It” averaged a 1.2/4 in adults 18-49 and 4.8 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, “Minute” ticked off increases in all key ratings categories, including gains of 18 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.3 rating from a 1.1) and 16 percent in total viewers (5.2 million vs. 4.5 million). Week to week, “Minute” was up 9 percent in 18-49 rating (1.2 vs. 1.1) and 3 percent in total viewers (4.839 million vs. 4.695 million).

Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, a Results Show edition of “America’s Got Talent” (2.5/7 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures. “Talent’s” advantage in the hour was 25 percent in adults 18-49 (2.5 vs. 2.0 for Fox’s second-place “So You Think You Can Dance” in that hour) and 41 percent in adults 25-54 (3.1 vs. 2.2 for “So You Think You Can Dance”). In total viewers, the “Talent” margin of victory was 68 percent (9.730 million vs. 5.790 million for “Dance”). “Talent” built on its lead-in by 108 percent in 18-49 rating and 101 percent in total viewers.

Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, “Love in the Wild” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall) tied for #1 in the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and was #1 outright in adults 18-34. For all seven of its telecasts to date, “Love In The Wild” has finished #1 or tied for #1 in its time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49.

On Thursday, August 11 at 8 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of “Community” averaged a 0.4/2 in 18-49 and 1.7 million viewers overall. At 8:30 p.m., a rebroadcast of “Parks and Recreation” (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.5 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 25 percent in 18-49 rating.

Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “The Office” (0.8/2 in 18-49, 2.1 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 60 percent in 18-49 rating. From 9:31-10 p.m., a rebroadcast “30 Rock” averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 1.7 million viewers overall.

Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall) grew from its first half-hour to its second by 29 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 0.9 from a 0.7) and 26 percent in total viewers (3.347 million vs. 2.654 million).

On Friday, August 12 at 8 p.m. ET, “Friends With Benefits” delivered a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 1.9 million viewers overall. At 8:30, a second episode of “Friends With Benefits” averaged a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 1.8 million viewers overall.

Friday from 9-11 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) tied for the #1 non-sports rating of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC or CW in adults 18-49. It’s the eighth time this summer “Dateline NBC” has ranked #1 or tied for #1 among all non-sports Friday telecasts on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW. “Dateline NBC” was also #1 in the time period among non-sports programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and CW in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers. From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Dateline” generated growth of 56 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.4 from a 0.9) and 46 percent or 2.1 million persons in total viewers (6.6 million vs. 4.5 million).

This marks the sixth week in a row and the ninth time in its last 10 telecasts that Friday’s “Dateline” has ranked #1 or tied for #1 in the slot among non-sports programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49.

On Saturday, August 13 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Who Do You Think You Are?” averaged a 0.4/2 in 18-49 and 1.8 million viewers overall. “Who Do You Think You Are?” was cleared in 89 percent of the country.

Saturday at 9 p.m. ET, “Wrestlemania: The World Premiere” delivered a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.1 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, “Wrestlemania: The World Premiere” grew by 17 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 0.7 from a 0.6) and 15 percent in total viewers (2.2 million vs. 1.9 million).

Saturday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.7 million viewers overall.

On Sunday, August 14, from 7-8 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall) reported its top adult 18-49 rating for a Sunday telecast since May 22 and its biggest overall audience for a Sunday edition since March 22, 2009. With a Lester Holt report, “America Now: The Town That Jobs Forgot,” covering the economic struggles of Millen, Ga., “Dateline” was the top non-sports telecast in that hour on ABC, NBC or Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers and was #1 overall on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox in all key female demos — women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. From its first half-hour to its second, “Dateline NBC” grew by 27 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.4 from a 1.1) and 15 percent in total viewers (7.0 million vs. 6.1 million).

Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, “Minute To Win It” delivered a 1.0/3 in 18-49 and 3.5 million viewers overall. “Minute To Win It” earned NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the hour in three weeks.

Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, “The Marriage Ref” averaged a 0.9/2 in 18-49 and 2.7 million viewers overall. At 10 p.m., another telecast of “The Marriage Ref” delivered a 0.9/2 in 18-49 and 2.6 million viewers overall. The 10 p.m. episode grew by 7 percent in total viewers from its first half-hour to its second (to 2.7 million from 2.6 million).
