An eight-hour radiothon by Withers Broadcasting’s Country WEBQ-AM Harrisburg, IL provided the shelter with more than $40,000 in donations and pledges. It’s enough to keep them open for almost a year, says a WPSD-TV story.
“We didn’t want the shelter to shut down,” said Sonny Dotson, WEBQ Sales Manager told WPSD.
The 90-year-old radio station started planning Tuesday’s radio-thon last week and set a goal of $50,000. “We’ve got almost $42,000 so far,” said Dotson. “We had more money coming in this morning. We’ll have more before it’s all over, so it’s very realistic that we will hit the $50,000,” he said.
