Townsquare’s Berkett Surfacing at Viacom

Alex BerkettAlex Berkett was one of the guiding lights of innovative radio group Townsquare Media’s mergers and acquisitions operation – and wore many additional hats. He is experiencing a turf expansion of epic proportions, moving from Townsquare’s small market focus to media giant Viacom’s global scope.

Berkett said, “I am thrilled to be joining the team at Viacom.  While my time at Townsquare Media was wonderful and leaving was a very difficult decision, the opportunity at Viacom is extremely exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”

His new gig comes with the title Senior Vice President, Corporate Development.

Viacom stated, “In this role, Berkett will lead the company’s global corporate development and mergers and acquisitions functions. Based in New York, he will report directly to Wade Davis, Chief Financial Officer of Viacom.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Alex to Viacom, where he will oversee our efforts to forge new partnerships, explore opportunities in innovative new businesses and help advance the company’s strategic goals,” said Davis. “Viacom is committed to continued investment in key areas of growth, and Alex’s deep knowledge of media, strong transactional track record and entrepreneurial background make him the right choice to expand our capabilities in new and exciting ways. Alex is a proven leader and has the skills and experience to hit the ground running.”

RBR+TVBR observation: Townsquare has been notable for superserving its local markets in as many ways as it can, and Berkett was a big part of making that strategy work.

It will be very interesting to see if and how this model will translate to Viacom’s much larger scale.
