Townsquare reels in Cedar Falls trust stations

Townsquare Media GroupInnovative radio group Townsquare Media is upgrading its act in Iowa with a deal to acquire three stations from Allen Blum, who is selling them as divestiture trustee for none other than Townsquare Media.

When Steven Price’s group entrusted the care and feeding of the stations to Blum, it retained KOEL-AM Oelwein IA, which is located to the northeast of Cedar Falls with no actual presence in the market.

Coming back into the fold are KOEL-FM, KKHQ-FM and KCRR-FM. The price of the stations is of course negligible – nothing more than the assumption of all liabilities.

The smaller two stations do the best job of blanketing Cedar Falls – they are Country KOEL-FM a Class C3 out licensed to Cedar Falls itself, and Classic Rock KCRR-FM, a C2 out of Grundy Center IA. KKHQ-FM blasts 100 kW of CHR over a wide swatch of Iowa, but its Oelwein city of license only barely gets it into Cedar Falls and serves mainly the northeastern outskirts of the market.
