The setting: The Spanish Revolution. The heroine: Policarpa Salavarrieta, better known as “La Pola” – a woman who played a major role in that conflict. The program by the same name premieres on TeleFutura 5/2/11 at 7Pm eastern. Carolina Ramírez is cast in the title role.

According to TeleFutura, the program is structured as follows:

“Set in New Granada during the Spanish revolution, comes the story of “La Pola,” a beautiful and proud working-class woman who falls deeply in love with Alejo Sabranín (Emmanuel Esperanza), a wealthy and educated aristocrat with direct lineage to the King of Spain. Their tale of forbidden love encounters turmoil at the hands of those who wish to separate them, at a time when class, race and social stature dictated the destiny of young love. Their forbidden passion is tried yet again when “La Pola” puts feelings aside to fight for the patriotic working class defenders of the revolution, while Alejo finds himself divided between loyalty to his King and the intense love he has for the woman who has stolen his heart.”

TeleFutura is a general interest Spanish network, one of the many media operations under the Univision umbrella.
