A family-run AM/FM combo in the northwest corner of Iowa will now be owned in full by the daughter of the couple who ran it.
The move comes following the May 3 death of the new owner’s mother, Norma Stangland, who passed away at the age of 95 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
That’s the lone deal in RBR+TVBR‘s TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Friday, June 16.
Norma Stangland was the matriarch of a small broadcast company comprised of Class D KIWA-AM 1550 and Class C2 KIWA-FM 105.3 in Sheldon, Iowa.
She worked as a secretary for many years for KIWA, owned by her husband, E.C. “Red” Stangland. Mr. Stangland died in August 1995, at which time a trust was created. A similar trust was created for Mrs. Stangland. Her trust held 20% ownership of KIWA-AM & FM owner Sheldon Broadcasting; Mr. Stangland’s trust held the remaining 80% ownership.
Now, a Form 315 application with the FCC indicates that the daughter of Red and Norma Stangland, Susan Stangland, will become the 100% owner of Sheldon Broadcasting.
She is adding Walt Pruiksma as a non-equity director and officer.
The Transfer of Control application will be placed in the local public file, an important step that will clear Ms. Stangland of any possible FCC violations.
A second-generation immigrant from Denmark, Norma Stangland enjoyed dancing at the Arkota Ballroom, hosting wonderful holiday meals and feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels. Most of all she was a passionate pet owner. Over the years, she loved and cared for two dogs: Rusty and Pugsley, and four cats: Sylvester, Snookums, Smoky and Chauncey.
Her son, Jeffrey, passed away on April 15, 2014.
