PORTLAND, ORE. — The former Market Manager and GM for BiCoastal Media’s Medford, Ore., station group is heading up Interstate 5 straight to Exit 299A, and a single-story office park located within walking distance of The Old Spaghetti Factory.
Once there, he’ll take over as VP/Market Manager for Entercom’s Portland, Ore., cluster.
And, it will mark a return to the Rose City in a role that pits this individual against his former competitor.
Bill Ashenden is taking over the Entercom/Portland, Ore., station group on July 10. He takes a job that had most recently held by Tim McNamara, who in March 2017 welcomed Chris Crowley from Entercom’s WCMF-FM in Rochester, N.Y. as the new PD for Classic Rock sibling KGON-FM in Portland.
Entercom did not comment on McNamara’s departure.
From July 10, Ashenden will be overseeing a station group comprised of not only KGON but also Country KWJJ-FM “99.5 The Wolf,” Adult Hits KYCH-FM “97.1 Charlie FM,” Alternative KNRK-FM 94.7, Hot AC KRSK-FM 105.1 “The Buzz”, and AM Sports Talk siblings KFXX-AM 1080 “The Fan” and KMTT-AM “ESPN Portland 910.”
It gives him an opportunity to compete not only against iHeartMedia’s Rose City station group, but also that of hometown broadcast company Alpha Media—his place of employment from September 2009 from July 2013.
As GSM of then-Alpha Broadcasting, Ashenden managed a sales team including sales managers and account executives for KXL-FM 101.1, KXTG-AM 750 “The Game,” KUFO-AM “Freedom 970” and the 16-affiliate Radio NW Network (home to syndicated personality Lars Larson).
Before that, Ashendon served nearly 16 years as Director of Sales for Rose City Radio, which owned KXL and the former KUFO-FM. From 1987-1994, Ashendon worked across the street at heritage CHR-formatted KKRZ-FM “Z100,” first under Taft Broadcasting as a sales associate until 1992, and from 1992-1994 as GM under then-owner Great American Broadcasters. Z100 is now owned by iHeartRadio.
“Bill impressed us not only with his deep knowledge of the Portland market and the radio business overall, but also with his experience in developing people and long term client relationships,” said Michael Doyle, Regional President of Entercom.
“I look forward to working with the best team and the best brands in Portland to deliver outstanding results for our customers,” said Ashenden.
