Final Round Set For Reverse Auction’s Current Stage

Get ready for Stage 4 of the FCC’s Forward Auction.

The Commission announced Wednesday (1/4) that Stage 4 of its Reverse Auction will conclude on Friday, Jan. 13.

To ensure that bidding in this stage of the Reverse Auction does indeed conclude on the 13th, the bidding schedule will jump from three rounds per day to four, effective Jan. 10.

Under this adjusted bidding schedule and the current decrement, the base clock price will reach $0 in Round 52, which is a 30-minute lightning round set for 2 p.m. on Jan. 13.

Of course, it’s possible for the auction to take up to two additional bidding rounds beyond the point at which the base clock price has reached $0, if the final bidding status has not yet been determined for any VHF stations.

As such, the FCC is adjusting the bidding schedule for Jan. 13 to permit up to five rounds of bidding. This means the schedule for the remainder of Stage 4 of the reverse auction will be as follows:

Bidding Round. . . . 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET
Bidding Round. . . . 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET

Bidding Round. . . 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM ET
Bidding Round. . . . 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM ET
Bidding Round. . . . 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET

Friday, January 13
Round 50. . . 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET
Round 51. . . 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM ET
Round 52. . . . 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM ET
Round 53. . . . 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM ET
Round 54. . . . 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM ET

The FCC reminds bidders to have firm back-up arrangements (which may include calling the Auction Bidder Line) ready for immediate implementation, in case they encounter any difficulties accessing the Auction System.

The current Clearing Target is 84 MHz, with 70 MHz of licensed spectrum. A new clearing cost is expected by Monday, Jan. 16.

Bidding in Stage 3 of the FCC Reverse Auction concluded with a new clearing cost of exactly $40,313,164,425.

The result of Stage 3 bidding in the FCC Forward Auction:  $19,676,240,520. The Stage 3 Forward Auction clearing target was 108 MHz, representing 80 MHz of licensed spectrum.
