Regional coastal NC group spins an AM

SoldThe ranks of female broadcast license owners will grow by one once a newly-filed deal for WAVQ-AM Jacksonville NC reaches the finish line.

Buyer CDV Broadcasting LLC is headed by Cathy Clark. WAVQ will be the company’s only broadcast station.

It is coming from Connor Media Corporation, headed by Ronald Benfield. Through Connor and other licensees, Benfield has an interest in five other radio stations in the greater Greenville-New Bern NC area. None of them are gifted with full market coverage, a difficult feat to pull off in this geopraphically-spaced-out market.

The price for the station will be $225K. Clark is required to place a $10K deposit, pay $55K cash at closing and provide a promissory note for the remaining $160K with a term of four years.

WAVQ is a Class C on 1400 kHz with 1 kW-U, ND. It is local to Jacksonville and blankets neighboring Camp Lejeune on the southeastern edge of the market.
