New York market station being shopped

For SaleThe sale of an AM station with a signal centered on the area just north of New York City isn’t the only option being considered, but it is certainly one of them. The station in question is WRKL-AM.

The city of license is lacking one key word, which if it were not lacking would make this a bigger story. The word is “York” – WRKL is licensed to New City, and its Class B signal is centered two far north of the city center to make it a player on Broadway and other notable landmarks.

Nonetheless, it reaches a lot of people with its 1 kW-D, 800-W-N DA2 facility. The main contour reaches as far south as Paterson NJ and Yonkers NY, and it does throw a secondary contour over NYC.

It is currently programmed a Radio Cantico Nuevo, which as you have no doubt figured out is a Spanish format.

The owner, Polnet Communications, has retained Bob Heymann of Media Service Group “to identify, examine and consider a range of strategic options available including a possible sale of WRKL.” Heymann says the asking price is $3M. “This is a rare opportunity for turnkey ownership in the nation’s largest market at an extremely attractive price,” he added.

Polnet owns another AM in the general vicinity – WLIM-AM Patchogue NY serves parts of Central Long Island, as well as stations in Chicago and Tampa-Sarasota.
