EASIn the future, Emergency Alert System warnings will warn the public more specifically about hurricane dangers.

The FCC added new warning codes to the EAS. The three new “event” codes will help warn the public about storm surges and extreme winds as part of hurricanes.

The new, more specific, codes were added with input from stations and emergency alerting personnel.

Now, equipment manufacturers will integrate the new codes into new equipment and enable stations to update their existing equipment before next year’s Atlantic hurricane season.
