Michael Patrick Shiels returning to Michigan radio

He’ll be back on the air in the Great Lakes State 5/7 with a syndicated three-hour talker on TV as well as on radio. “Michigan’s Big Show” will air live on WSYM-TV, the FOX TV affiliate in Lansing, and will be heard on more than 10 radio stations across Michigan. They include: WDTW-AM Detroit, WTKG-AM Grand Rapids, WKBZ-AM Muskegon, WHTC-AM Holland, WSJM-AM St. Joseph, WSJM-FM Benton Harbor, WMMI-AM Mt. Pleasant, WJML-AM Petoskey and WJNL-AM Traverse City.

The new show will cover news, politics, business, entertainment, sports and lifestyles from a Michigan perspective through interviews with newsmakers worldwide from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays.

“Even though I coaxed Mitt Romney into promising me on the air that he’d make me U.S. ambassador to Ireland if he becomes president, I’m very happy to be back on the air here in Michigan,” Shiels told MLive.com.

In February, Shiels voluntarily left “Michigan’s Morning Show,” which aired on nine stations across the state, including Cumulus’ WJIM-AM Lansing and WJRW-AM Grand Rapids. Shiels said it was an amicable parting when he left Cumulus.

“Michigan’s Big Show” will be seen live on WSYM-TV in Lansing weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Said Gary Baxter, VP/GM of WSYM-TV in Lansing: “there is simply no one like (Shiels) on radio or TV in the state of Michigan. Michael Patrick’s show allows us to have the biggest names in politics, business and Michigan sports on our air every morning. Our viewers might see Governor Snyder and Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford on the same show — what great television!”

Shiels, 44, has been honored multiple times – most recently in March – by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters as Network Personality of the Year for his personable interviews and non-partisan approach. Shiels also is a columnist and author who collaborated on titles with Larry King and Donald Trump.
