Local Choice scrubbed from satellite bill

U.S. CongressSenators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and John Thune (R-SD) are allowing consideration of a satellite bill proceed without being weighed down by the anchor of their “Local Choice” insertion. NAB applauded the move.

The bill has been applauded by cable and satellite companies but abhorred by broadcasters and others, including the advertising community. It would give cable subscribers a la carte menu options on broadcast stations with no such opportunity to choose among competing cable channels.
