Nielsenby Clark Smidt – Broadcast Connector

The results for the mid-June to mid-July radio ratings wars are in for America’s largest markets, and Broadcast Connector analyst Clark Smidt (www.broadcastideas.com) has the numbers and supplies the comments.

Funny to be working to reach gadgets, not listeners. Strange that back in the day almost anyone could access complete Arbitron market reports.  Let’s look at the June 18 – July 15 survey dates….Markets #21 Baltimore, MD through #29 Salt Lake City, UT.

Our takeaways: Radio’s perception stock is up despite Wall Street, strong presentations win when hitting listener hot buttons and digital reception is clear and easily “seen” on Easy Access Receivers.

Strange that back in the day almost anyone could access complete Arbitron market reports.  Now, not good for anyone with Top 100 markets released with just one cluster listed with a very basic 12+ number and the rest of the stations with no basis of minimal comparison. Oh, and the same PPM household can keep their reporting status for two years. That sure moves the sample around.

The good news: Audio Delivery (aka RADIO) is hotter than ever.  Free Choice that’s Everywhere & Wireless.  Plenty of ways to listen.  Build it and they will come.  And, hear.  And, like.  And, buy.  There seems to be more excitement and passion than ever in the local markets by the local operators.  So, with positive optimism, let’s check edition 3 of the June 18 – July 15 survey dates.  Portable People Meter (PPM) 6+ subscribers only, Total Week numbers with some market rank changes for Markets #21 Baltimore, MD through #29 Salt Lake City, UT.
