A longtime association member, former Chairman of the Board and current Foundation Secretary/Treasurer has been named “Incoming Executive Director” of the Radio Television Digital News Association and Foundation (RTDNA/F).

Dan Shelley is already on the job, and will officially assume the role of Executive Director in September.  Current Executive Director Mike Cavender, who previously announced his intention to retire, will provide transition assistance to the organizations through the end of the year.

Shelley is a veteran radio executive whose resume includes stints as SVP of Digital Content Strategy at iHeartMedia, as SVP of Interactive One Local & Interactive One Studios for Radio One, and as the Director of Digital Media for WCBS-2 in New York.

He served as Chairman of the group then-known as the RTNDA from 2005 to 2007, and spent nearly 13 years as News Director of KTTS-AM & FM in Springfield, Mo., exiting in Sept. 1995 for a nearly 11-year stint as News Director at WTMJ-AM in Milwaukee.

“Dan’s unique blend of experience, energy and deep understanding of our mission will position us for growth and continued success,” said Board Chairman Vincent Duffy, news director of Michigan Radio. “His passion and dedication make him an ideal leader for our organization.”

“I am honored to take on this exciting new challenge at a critical time for our profession,” Shelley said. “More than ever, RTDNA plays an essential role in defending the rights of electronic journalists. I am looking forward to serving our members and advocating on their behalf.”
