Summit MediaSummitMedia announced the appointment of Greg Reed as Vice-President/General Manager of its Birmingham stations. A native of Delaware, Greg began his radio career in Philadelphia as a sales account executive for CBS Radio, and subsequently was part of the management team for the launch of WXTU/Philadelphia.

Reed joined George Beasley to form Beasley-Reed Broadcasting in the purchase of what was then 96X (WCJX 96.3) in Miami.  96X became WPOW, “Power 96” and, under Reed’s management, went on to top the Miami radio ratings for three decades.

In addition, Beasley-Reed purchased a classic rock station in the Orlando market, changed the format to urban, and “102 JAMZ” (WJHM/101.9) soon rose to #1 in the market.  A few years later the partnership purchased WQAM/Miami “560 Sportsradio” which became the #1 billing station in Miami.

Said Reed: “I am very excited to be working with the outstanding team Summit Media/Birmingham has assembled.  I am particularly happy to be reunited with Summit Media Senior Vice President/Programming Bill Tanner and to work with CEO Carl Parmer.  We all share years of experience and similar operating philosophies which should serve us well.”

Parmer added, “We are very happy to have Greg Reed join SummitMedia.  His vast experience and high level of success make him uniquely qualified to lead our Birmingham cluster.”

Of note: David DuBose  exited his position as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of Summit Media on 5/14.
