Fox and Dodgers talking billions for rights package

Los Angeles DodgersNumerous reports note that News Corporation is seeking the Los Angeles Dodgers to be a cornerstone franchise on their area regional sports network, with a pricetag in the $6B-$7B range.


The deal would nail down rights to the games for 25 years.

Fox Sports is said to be paying $40M a year to carry Dodgers games. A $7B 25-year deal would take the average fee per seaso all the way to $280M.

The ink is barely dry on a Fox baseball deal on the other coast. Its agreement to by a 49% stake in the cable network that carries the New York Yankees was valued at around $3B.

Fox is said to have exclusive rights to talk with the Dodgers until the end of the month of November.
