Chief Building Engineer

Chicago, IL – WGN-TV has an immediate opening for a Chief Building Engineer to maintain our mission-critical physical plant systems. This position reports to the Vice President of Technology at WGN. The Chief Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining the building HVAC, electrical, mechanical and life safety systems at our Bradley Place facility. The Chief Building Engineer will coordinate maintenance and shift coverage activities with their staff and outside vendors, assist with expense forecasting and budgeting, maintain maintenance records and inspection documents, develop appropriate operational guidelines and documentation for all building systems, maintain vendor relationships along with other duties as required. The successful candidate will have an excellent work ethic, take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution, have good troubleshooting skills and enjoy working in a mission-critical, fast-paced broadcast environment.

This position requires a minimum of 7 years of building engineering experience with increasing supervisory and/or management responsibility in a high rise or industrial facility. The position requires the ability to work on ladders and in crawl spaces and lift a minimum of 50lbs. You must be able to use hand tools and test equipment required for the job. Working knowledge of safety procedures including hot work permitting, lock-out/tag-out, insurance notifications, etc. is required. Working knowledge of inspection processes involving boilers, backflow valves, electrical systems, fire alarm and fire suppression systems is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office including Outlook, Excel and Word required. Previous experience with building HVAC and redundant power systems (UPS & generator) is required. Experience with McQuay RTU’s, Data Aire EAC’s, AirTherm FCU’s, SmarDT chillers, Emerson/Liebert NXL series UPS systems, Onan generators, VESDA fire suppression systems a plus. Must be available to handle emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
