DISH Network shares climbed 1.6%, to $65.02, on Friday after surging some 2.5% on an early morning report that it and Amazon may be exploring a deeper partnership or perhaps a merger.
Amazon and Dish presently have an agreement that sees the exclusive integration of Amazon’s Alexa assistant into Dish’s set-tops. Benzinga reports the two company could be looking at a cozier business relationship by September.
Benzinga cited sources close to the matter in predicting that Amazon could support its much-talked-about delivery drones with Dish’s spectrum hoard.
Dish may also wish to integrate Amazon Video into a Dish-facilitated streaming offering—a potential coup for Dish subscribers, giving them access to such acclaimed programming as The Man in the High Castle and Transparent.
After climbing above $1,000 a share in recent trading sessions, Amazon shares plunged 3.2% on Friday, to $978.31.
