Adams celebrates anniversary while Great Scott bows out
It was just about a year ago when Adams Radio Group acquired its first stations in Las Cruces NM – and now it’s moving into a fourth market courtesy of Great Scott Broadcasting, which with this and a second deal is calling it a day after about 50 years in the business. Kalil & Co. brokered the deal.
Adams is acquiring two AMs, four FMs and two translators in the Salisbury-Ocean City market. Included in the deal are: WGBG-FM/WJWK-AM Seaford DE, WJWL-AM/WZBH-FM Georgetown DE, WKHI-FM Fruitland MD and WOCQ-FM Berlin MD. The translators are W242AV and W262BF.
Terms of the deal were not released.
While this incarnation of Adams is new, its chairman Stephen Adams has a long history in the business. Its other two markets are Fort Wayne IN and the area near Chicago in Northwest Indiana known as “The Region.”
Adams’ President/CEO is Ron Stone, who stated, “We are very excited to join the broadcast community in Salisbury – Ocean City! This cluster is another rare opportunity to acquire a company that has been in the same family for almost 50 years. We are honored to be chosen by the Scott family to be the next stewards of these great stations! These stations are a great compliment to the other markets we have acquired.”
Jeff Scott of Great Scott Broadcasting added: “Our family has proudly served the Delmarva Peninsula for 50 years. We quietly listed our stations in hopes that we would find the perfect buyer that shares our values in serving the public. We believe Adams Radio is that company. We have no doubts that our families tradition of high quality programming will continue and the public will be well served by Adams.”
The Voice Radio Network is the other buyer, getting stations also in the geographically far-flung Salisbury-Ocean City market, including Great Scott Broadcasting has also entered into a purchase agreement with The Voice Radio Network for their remaining four stations; WKDB-FM licensed to Laurel, DE, WZEB-FM licensed to Ocean View, DE, WJKI-FM, licensed to Bethany Beach, DE and WXSH-FM licensed to Pocomoke, MD.
