ABC gets another week of gains

Overall: Posting its 3rd straight week of Total Viewer gains (+5%) and growing 10% in Adults 18-49, ABC hit 7-week highs on both measures – since w/o 6/17/13. ABC was the only broadcaster up week to week with young adults.   Scoring season highs, ABC’s season finale of The Bachelorette was the week’s #1 broadcast show in Adults 18-49, while The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose placed #3.  The Bachelorette and After the Final Rose finished as TV’s Top 2 telecasts of the week with Women 18-49.  For the 2nd week in a row, the Net delivered strong year-to-year gains with Total Viewers (+40%) and Adults 18-49 (+22%).


Monday: Featuring the season finale of The Bachelorette and After the Final Rose, ABC won Monday night by wide margins over its nearest competition (CBS) in Total Viewers (+38%) and Adults 18-49 (+63%).  The Bachelorette finished as Monday’s highest-rated TV show in Adults 18-49.  ABC’s The Bachelorette finale was the most social broadcast series on Monday night, delivering the show’s highest number of tweets of the season.  During its season, The Bachelorette produced 1.9 million total tweets.  Doubling the audience of its nearest competition in its 2-hour slot, The Bachelorette finale beat out NBC’s unscripted combo (American Ninja Warrior/Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls) by a best-yet 102% in Total Viewers and by 86% in Adults 18-49.  Building throughout its broadcast, the show shot up by 1.4 million viewers and by 21% in Adults 18-49 from its first half-hour to its final half-hour.  Up week to week in Total Viewers (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%), The Bachelorette marked season-highs for the 2nd straight week.  In viewers and young adults, The Bachelorette scored 2-year summertime highs for ABC in the time period – since 08/01/11.  During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose finished in a virtual tie for #1 with CBS’ Under the Dome in Adults 18-49, while dominating the hour in Adults 18-34 and all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).  In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, After the Final Rose produced ABC’s strongest summer performance in the hour since August 2011 (since 08/01/11).

Tuesday: From 8-10pm, ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss increased its overall audience 8% week to week to earn its most-watched telecast in 10 weeks (best since its season premiere on 05/28/13), while matching a season-high in Adults 18-49, to equal the series’ top rating since last July (since 7/15/12).  Building from its first half-hour to its final half-hour in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%) opposite NBC’s America’s Got Talent (9-10pm), ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss drew 8% more viewers than the final half-hour of Fox’s 2-hour So You Think You Can Dance at 9:30pm and tied the Fox unscripted series in Adults 18-49.

Wednesday: Building on its lead-in during Wednesday’s 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s The Lookout continued to improve its hour by double-digit margins year to year in Total Viewers (+21%), Adults 25-54 (+33%) and Adults 18-49 (+13%) over original programming on the year-ago night (Final Witness on 8/8/12).

Friday: An encore Shark Tank made ABC the most-watched Net in the 8pm hour for the 3rd week running.  In addition, the ABC unscripted program turned in its strongest numbers in 9 weeks with Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34  – since 6/7/13.  Shark Tank posted increases of 1.1 million viewers and 33% in Adults 18-49 compared to its year-ago telecast.   In the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s Would You Fall For That? ranked #1 among the major networks in Women 18-34 to deliver a series high.

Sunday: Building on its lead-in at 8pm and gaining audience throughout its broadcast, ABC’s Secret Millionaire grew over its year-ago telecast by double digits in the hour among Total Viewers (+18%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%).   Secret Millionaire was up from its week-ago premiere in Men 18-34 (+17%), equaling ABC’s top non-sports rating in the time period this summer.  During the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s Whodunnit? was up week to week in viewers (+7%) and young adults (+10%).  The show drew its biggest audience since its season premiere 7 weeks ago and matched a best-since-debut Adult 18-49 rating – since 6/23/13.  Whodunnit? also improved its time period by 23% in Total Viewers and 38% in Adults 18-49 over original programming on the same night last year.
